    The bio-inspired work of Chang et al. is remarkable. Nevertheless, the idea is not new: Already Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519) analyzed the flight of birds in his Codex on the flight of birds (“Codice sul volo degli uccelli”) and tried to transfer the knowledge gained from it to the construction of flying machines. The aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal (1848-1896) also studied the wings and the flight of birds very carefully and said: "We have seen that in the real flight of birds there are so many remarkably favourable mechanical moments that we will probably have to do without the possibility of free flight once and for all if we do not want to use these favourable moments.” (Otto Lilienthal: Der Vogelflug als Grundlage der Fliegekunst, Berlin 1889, chapter 38, see link: http://www.lilienthal-museum.de/olma/dokvo38.htm).
    Bio-inspired bionics therefore has its origins much earlier in the history of mankind, and perhaps it would be good for the future if we were also to look at the findings from history, because people from the past were no less intelligent than today.
